First of all- sorry it took me this long to write my last blogpost about Berlin with Visionapartments. I was so busy over the last 2 weeks I honestly had no time. Even though I always say having no time is no excuse, when I would've had time I fell asleep so yap. But now I finally got to write it yayy!
On my day 6 in Berlin I got up quite early to write a 4-page article for a food magazine with recipes I made for it before going to Berlin. Stuff like that always takes up way more time than you think it would. But after my super early morning workout at the gym just around the corner I felt ready to stare at my screen and trying to put everything together so that I would be convinced of it eventually. I actually really liked working in my Visionapartment because not only was there a lot of daylight, it's simply an amazing, super comfy and quiet working space! Once I was done (puh!!) I had to hurry up a bit because I was going to meet Svenja for breakfast/lunch, a super lovely girl I met over Instagram who now lives and works in Berlin and is also a so called "foodie".
We met in the area of Prenzlauer Berg. It's only about a 15 minute form the apartment so I decided to walk. We had a quick coffee a super delicious Cacao-Smoothie Bowl with all the goodies on top at Dean & Dan- right on the opposite from Daluma- and explored the markets in the area after that. On a Sunday you can always be sure to walk across some markets in Berlin, especially in the area of Prenzlauer Berg. The first market we came across was.. i don't really know what it was actually haha, it was super small and had lots of different stuff but not really either vintage stuff or modern things- it was a weird mix of everything!:P
From there we walked directly to the famous flea market at the Mauerpark. It was packed!! Like literally packed! Super interesting to see though. There were lots of artist singing and playing the guitar, reggae bands and more. I really love live music, especially when a good voice is accompanied with an acoustic guitar only. Loooove! I tend to stand still and just stare at the musician and listen to the music and probably look like the biggest weirdo while doing that but it's all about feeling the music right! ;)
Right behind the market there was a small stage; well it was more like a big round stony platform. Svenja told me that every Sunday the Karaoke man comes, sets up his boxes and mic and people can grab the opinion to sing a karaoke song in front of hundreds of people. We waited for a bit and he arrived eventually. It was really fun to watch because some people could not sing at all, others were really good. But the crowd supported every single person who was performing with a big round of applause. Good vibes, good vibes!
Once we've seen and heard enough, we decided to check out another market about 10 minutes away from there. On the way we passed a restaurant called "Cat Tuong" where we simply had to stop and eat something because we were feeling super hungry! They serve asian insufed dished there, but all of them completely vegetarian. I was keen on trying it and it actually tasted really good!
After that Svenja had left, I walked around the city to take some shots for a couple more hours (this time with Nikes and not with shoes that hurt after walking for 5 minutes and making my feet look like a balloon-party) Berlin has so so much too see! And after spending a few days in the same city you slowly get the feeling to know your way around without looking at google maps every 5 minutes!;)
I got home only around 8 p.m., worked for a bit and then guess what: fooood again! And because Nadia felt like eating burger she went to a burger place called "Peter Pane" and had a super yummy delicious burger with sweet potato fries & edamame on the side. Good way to end the week I would say!
My flight back to Zurich was only in the afternoon the next day, so I met up with the lovely Eliose again at this amazing smoothie/juice bar called "The Liquid Garden" where they only serve green smoothies and raw treats. I'm not the biggest fan of green smoothies I have to say. I personally like it sweet and don't want my smoothie to taste like a green and healthy salad without dressing. BUT to my surprise- the smoothie I had tasted really good!
Eloise had to go to work and I took the train to the eastern part of Berlin to have breakfast at "Haferkater". (Guys you probably think I was eating the whole time but there was lots of walking and hours passing by between the meals. Even though I could eat all the time without necessarily walking around so much haha :P. But breakfast is always always always a must!) Anyways, at Haferkater they serve about 10 different kinds of oatmeal. Super delicious! Warm oats simply fill you up and give you enough energy for a few hours! With lots of nuts, banana & maple syrup on top, a Cinnamon-Cappucino & a warm rye-sourdough panini on the side, you can't really wish for more!
As some of you probably know, in 2012 I was in Canada for 6 months on an exchange where I met lots of people. Alex, a guy from Germany I had met in Canada, now lives in Berlin and we spontaneously met up for coffee. It was great seeing him after 4 years and catch up a bit. It's the best when you talk to friends and feel like nothing has changed after not seeing one another for such a long time but still have so so much to tell each other about everything that has happened over the past few years.
Now to the part I hate most about traveling- packing my suitcase! Uuuugh I hate it haha. I always buy too much stuff and it basically never fits in my suitcase but somehow it always works out at the airport. I mean I had to get all my new pottery, plates, cups & bowl into my suitcase and wrap them in a ton of newspaper so that wouldn't break. Honestly, going for a fast 90 minute run is way less exhausting than packing a suitcase. But this time I had like 5 carry on bags.. but the man at the security check was on drugs I think, he was pulling the weirdest jokes and laughing at himself. And he wanted me to take a picture of him with the camera I had wrapped aorund my neck and I don't know if you can call it modelling poses but yeah.. I guess that's what he was trying to do. It was funny because it was just weird.. Like I just didn't know what was going on in his mind. I guess you have all come across people like that before?! ;)
